Bought DayZ. Yes it's in Alpha. Yes it's buggy as hell. Yes, everyone's an asshole. I jumped in a game, and immediately my character is thirsty. After looting a house for soda, I went adventuring. Armed with nothing but a can opener, I ran around town, eventually taking shelter in an old looking school.
The school was chock full of stuff. Now armed with a can of beans, and a can opener, I was a force to be reckoned with. Suddenly, I hear gunshots. About 2 floors above me. There was only 1 entrance to the building, so he must have been camping here for a while. I eat my can of beans, and decide to look at my next action. Either I kill him, or I run away. Since I only now have a can opener, what can I lose right?
I stalk the guy through the building's halls. Thankfully, there are barricades that I can use to hide behind. As hes climbing up a ladder, I charge him. I immediately start using my war cry (which sounds like !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ) on the mic, which freaks this guy out. He sees me. Luckily, he's out of ammo. I start yelling that I'm going to skin him alive with my can opener. He starts yelling at me to not kill him. He's clearly 13 years old from the sound of his voice. Naive, and unaware of what a man will do with a can opener in a zombie apocalypse, the 13 year old is telling me to stand down. His pleas are silenced out by my leedling.
I strike him down. I strike him down with all my might. I strike him down with a can opener. Suddenly on VOIP, I hear "man.....why did you kill me. Can you not take my stuff? I worked hard to get it." He sounds sad. He sounds like he's about to cry. I told him I'd leave him some of his stuff. I lied. I took a rifle with a bipod and a scope, a backpack full of medical supplies and food, and his clothes. I left him with the can opener I used to kill him with.
Good luck can opener kid. God speed.
DayZ - 8/10.

30 dollars on steam for early access. Beware, it needs a really good computer to run on, and it's super buggy.
I have a Radeon HD 7850 1gb, with an i7 920 and 20gb of ram. I only get like 30fps on medium/low settings.

I had a feeling you'd say something like that. My PC isn't bad, but it's nowhere near what you're running. :(

When you first spawn in you're at 25% food and water, that's why you see the warning pop up on screen.

7970, i7 930, 8gig ram, getting no frame rate issues but the damn perspective/focus blurring is killing my eyes. Best thing to do is turn off all motion blur and post processing effects. They make the game harder to play and chew up frames.

Ah my days in the mod. Setting up a sniper nest in Cherno, rigging up bear traps at the tops of ladders and declaring it 'my city' over world chat. Then picking off all challengers until they got so pissed off they sent a chopper at me.

The mod was great fun until the hacking got really bad. I remember spending ages running around north of elektro picking off people as they ran from the snipers sitting in the tower. Stay behind the treeline and you were safe.
The most fun came from raiding people's camps in the woods, stealing all their shit and then slipping away before they noticed... good times.

From what I've seen, rust looks really fun. I've been hooked on sins of a solar empire lately, but I might take a dip back into the survival games with Rust.
